Independent Learning Program

Oak Crest Academy Independent Learning (OCAIL) program offers families all the opportunities of an elite private school including highly qualified teachers, excellent curriculum options, academic counseling and mentoring. OCAIL offers experiences for students that develop their intellect, encourage achievement, and nurture academic and personal goals. OCAIL students participate in a more elaborate, in-depth study of major topics, and engage in problem solving that integrates knowledge across systems of thought. Curriculum options include acceleration in all academic areas, as well as opportunities to conduct in-depth research projects on topics of the student’s choosing. Our students are placed in the most appropriate courses for their learning level, regardless of their chronological age.

After School Child Care Program

To meet the needs of our families, Oak Crest Academy provides childcare before school from 8:00am-8:30am and after school 3:00pm- 5:30 PM.

Summer Camp Program

Oak Crest Academy provides unique opportunities for students to attend Summer enrichment courses at Oak Crest Academy. These enrichment programs enable students to explore specialized topics not typically studied in the regular classroom.

Program Philosophy:
Summer Enrichment Program, or SEP, is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning for students. The program recognizes the importance of allowing able youngsters to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, humanities, and arts. Course activities are compatible with the expected achievement of students at specific grade and age levels.

At Oak Crest Academy, we consider summer break to be a time for students to explore their interests while still being challenged at a level that is appropriate for them. In addition, we understand that while not all students may be a fit for our day school, they may benefit and enjoy the experience of our summer sessions. Therefore, we will have a separate admissions process for non-students interested in attending these sessions.

Summer sessions will take place for three weeks over the summer. During this time students will have the opportunity to take a range of courses, both academic and extracurricular. We will continue to use project-based inquiry to allow students to explore topics of interest through problem solving and in a team-based scenario.

After School Enrichment Program

Oak Crest Academy after school programs provide a stimulating environment for students to participate in exciting classes and clubs.

Oak Crest Academy’s campus life extends past the last dismissal bell. Many students elect to stay and partake in one of our many classes, clubs or sports offered after the school day ends.  While some classes are geared toward the younger age group, others accommodate older students and their interests.  After school clubs provide students with the opportunity to exercise their creativity and specific talents, make new friends, and learn new skills and abilities.  Classes and clubs run daily from 3:00-4:00pm.  The cost of the classes and the classes offered vary by trimester.  Below are a few examples of the classes and clubs offered on campus:

Sports          Chess Club     Woodshop     Cooking

Journalism     Yoga     Beginning Mandarin     Choir

Robotics    Math Tutoring   Lego Engineering   Speech

Gifted Language Program

Oak Crest Academy offers a gifted language program for students entering Kindergarten and continues to fifth grade.

The goal is to promote high academic achievement, English, Mandarin and Spanish language development and cross-cultural understanding. While in this program, students will develop a deeper understanding of their own and other languages/cultures while developing a lifelong ability to communicate with people in another language.

In grades K-8, the English, Mandarin and Spanish teachers cover curriculum in the different subjects. Cognitive and linguistic growth is assessed in both languages.

Hybrid/Blended Program

Oak Crest families are highly diverse and live throughout the United States and around the world.  No matter where our students are located, our community shares the same passion for excellence in education.  All of our families, teachers and staff believe that the four walls of a school should not bound educational achievement, and that by allowing the student and family to drive their own educational goals, the results are more meaningful to the student.

Oak Crest Academy offers families the option of a Hybrid School Program that combines traditional, face-to-face class time with online or out-of-class course work. We respect that many of our students have talents that do not allow them the ability to be in a traditional classroom five days a week. For these students we offer the flexibility of a Hybrid School option. Each student who elects the Hybrid model will have a schedule designed specifically for him or her.

Service Learning Program

Service-learning emphasizes both service and learning and requires participants to use their knowledge and skills to address real-life needs in their own communities. At Oak Crest Academy, students will achieve this goal by following the four phases of the service-learning process: investigation, planning, taking action, and reflection. When led through this collaborative process, students share and invest their ideas and skills and feel truly committed to the project and to making a difference.

Service-learning expands a student’s world and ties what is taught in the classroom to the community.  Service-learning connects community service with academic skills, and for our students, creates a deep connection between helping others and learning.

Service-learning is the application of the values we teach.  Our students have the opportunity to exercise civic responsibility, compassion, kindness, leadership, and a duty to others.

Each trimester, Oak Crest Academy students participate in a community service learning project. A new cohesive theme is explored and students take part in service field trips that directly tie into the cohesive theme and community segment area of emphasis. Each trimester the students will focus on People, Animals and Earth. Service-learning projects include working with a local food bank, working on a farm, recycling, stuffing bags for My Stuff Bags, making lunches for a homeless program, collecting and packaging donations for soldiers abroad, participating in beach clean up days, visiting the local animal shelter, working at a local thrift store for charity, and more.

In addition to teaching values, service-learning also enhances the personal and social skills Oak Crest Academy is trying to develop in our students: working with and for others, communication in verbal and written forms, problem solving, logical thinking, organizational skills, and forming lifelong habits such as helpfulness, graciousness, and generosity.

Social & Emotional Learning Program

TOOLBOX™ is a Kindergarten through 6th grade program that supports children in understanding and managing their own emotional, social, and academic success. The foundation of TOOLBOX is 12 human capacities that reside within all of us. Through its simple and profound metaphor of Tools, TOOLBOX brings forward a set of skills and practices that help students access their own inner resilience at any time, in any context.

Children learn 12 simple yet powerful Tools. With practice, these Tools become valuable personal skills: self-awareness, self-management, and relationship-building which, in turn, foster responsible decision-making. Because the techniques are simple and the language is shared, children adopt the Tools and master them quickly. TOOLBOX begins with a teacher providing instruction on how to use the Tools. Through modeling and daily classroom practices, the teacher subsequently supports his/her students to use the Tools to build self-knowledge and self-trust. Schools note rapid improvements in communication, civility, and conflict resolution in the classroom, on the playground, and across the entire school community. Providing parents and caregivers with the Tools and information on how to incorporate the practices into the home setting allows for continuity and reinforcement of skills for students.

In addition to Toolbox, Oak Crest Academy integrates mindfulness meditation into the day to teach children the skill of relaxation and focus. HMHB Kids Program uses a workbook, a group leader, and online tutorials to teach kids, families, and schools simple, yet powerful tools for focusing, calming the mind, erasing negative emotions, developing a good character, and harnessing the real-life super power of self-awareness.
